The all new Canada Science and Technology Museum (CSTM), scheduled to re-open November 17, 2017, boasts over 80,000 square feet of new exhibits. The re-opening will also mark the museum’s 50th anniversary and the 50th anniversary of my personal favorite exhibit: the Crazy Kitchen. Renamed Crazy Kitchen +, the exhibit will be exactly as we all remember it due to the requests of museum audiences. In fact, only the Crazy Kitchen and the locomotives will be returning, every other exhibit will be brand new.
We had a sneak peek of what the new CTSM has to offer. The exhibit we previewed, Zooom – Children’s Innovation Zone, will have children ages 0-8 learning and playing in a safe and engaging space. Zoom has nine interactive stations including a rock climbing wall, gears and pedals console, oversized foam blocks for building. Zooom is a feast for all the senses.
The older kids, 8-14, will enjoy the Artenots Mobile Game. The app Artebots is available now – I was able to download it on Google Play and the kids were able to play it during our visit to the museum. The kids create a robot using artifacts from the museum to battle the Bot Crusher. When the museum opens in November, the kids will be able to visit and earn more artifacts in an onsite augmented reality treasure hunt.
It has been a long wait for the reopening of our favourite Ottawa museum but it will be worth the wait. Follow CSTM on Facebook and Twitter @SciTechMuseum and look for #MyMuseum2017 for updates! The CSTM website has loads of information as well.
