Have you heard that Under Armour and Sport Chek’s are looking for their 2018 Canadian Youth Ambassadors? The 2018 TEAM UA NEXT contest celebrates everything we love about encouraging our children to be active. Athletes aged 7-12 can sign up (with help from their parents) and create a Statement video on their profile. The contestant can then add unlimited 15-second highlight videos to their profile.
At the end of the competition, 2 winners (1 boy & 1 girl) will be selected to be the next face of Under Armour. Each winner will receive Under Armour gear for a year, a place in an official Under Armour photo and video shoot and a chance to be featured in Sport Chek stores across Canada.
Sports are a huge part of my family life. It seems like we are constantly rushing off to practice, competitions or tournaments and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Having kids in sports is a huge time and money commitment but the benefits are worth all the time or money.
Confidence and self-esteem
It is well-known kids in sport have higher self-esteem and confidence. Setting personal goals and reaching them are life skills the girls can use forever. The times I have seen one of my girl’s confidence soar after a coach offered creative criticism helping them carry out a goal is all the proof I need.
Being a part of a team means using communication, listening and team building skills. With the girls in hockey, they have learned many social skills. Some of the most important skills include being on time for practice, showing the officials respect, and listening to coaches are all lifelong skills my children will use. Being a positive team player will carry over to their adult work lives.
Lifelong physical activity
Our goal as parents is to make sure our children find sports and physical activity they will love and take part in for the rest of their lives. Right now my daughter, Miss G, competes viciously when she is in her kayak but I hope she will continue to enjoy leisurely kayak rides well into her 70’s.
