The Light Between Oceans is now available on Blu-Ray and you will want to stock up on tissues if you pick it up. I was so excited to be able to share this movie with some of my closest friends. I remember being a teenager and watching “chick flicks” with my besties and bawling! The Light Between Oceans is more than a chick-flick. This movie grabs you right from the start. I felt like I was at the isolated lighthouse and even felt a little queasy watching the boat ride in the beginning of the film. By the end of the film, I was a blubbering mess… like ugly cry mess. The Light Between Oceans is a fabulous movie with a great story that will stay with you.
Tom is a World War I veteran who maintains a lighthouse off the shore of Australia with his wife Isabel, a woman desperate to have a baby. Her prayers are answered when an infant washes up on shore in a rowboat. Tom thinks they should notify the authorities but ultimately gives in to Isabel’s wish to keep the girl. Fate strikes again when the couple meets the child’s biological mother on the mainland. Now, Tom and Isabel must make a decision that will forever affect the lives of four people.
Blue-ray and Digital Bonus Features include:
Bringing The Light to Life – For weeks, the cast and crew of “The Light Between Oceans” lived in trailers on Cape Campbell, an isolated region of New Zealand, to film the movie adaptation of the best-selling novel. This documentary chronicles the unique approach and shooting style of director Derek Cianfrance and the production journey that inspired Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander, and Rachel Weisz to fully embody their characters and explore the power and depths of love.
Audio Commentary – View the film accompanied by an in-depth and thoughtful conversation between director Derek Cianfrance and his film studies professor Phil Solomon.
Lighthouse Keeper – The filmmakers, cast, and Cape Campbell Lighthouse inspector/maintainerRob Sword share the history of the lighthouse and explain the typical duties a lighthouse keeper like Tom Sherbourne would have during an assignment on Janus Island.
Sharing this movie with friends was made special with some branded gifts. Gifted to each of us at the viewing party was a massive teacup (now my favourite), a tin filled with flavoured teas, bath bombs, a soy candle, slippers and thank goodness… tissues! The kits were perfect to soothe us after watching this sweeping film. If you want to see how other parties went, take a look at the hashtag #LightBetweenOceansBluray on Instagram.
