I can’t recall the number of times we watched “La Guerre des Tuques” growing up in rural Quebec. The version we watched was not animated and it perfectly represented the winters I remember as a kid! I was pleasantly surprised that “Snowtime” lived up to my memories from grade school. They even nailed the twins in this classic war. Highlighted with music by Marie-Mai, Simple Plan and Celine Dion the movie stays true to its original story.
This movie is about friendship it is also about dealing with loss. This movie has stayed with me thorough the years and I am sure this new version will do the same with my kids generation. Parents, be prepared to talk with your younger kiddos about this movie.
Synopsis of Snowtime
The film follows a group of kids in a small village who set out during winter break to hold a massive snowball fight. 11-year-olds Luke and Sophie find themselves leaders of the opposing sides, with Sophie’s faction defending an elaborate snow fort against Luke’s. Whichever side controls the fort by the end of the break will be declared winner. However, what begins as a fun contest deteriorates into a more bitter conflict teaching the children valuable lessons about friendship, the importance of unity, and the emotional consequences of vicious rivalry.
