On my second day in Santorini, Greece and I still have not seen the sight I most looked forward to. The iconic blue domed churches. In Canada I see them in every Greek restaurant and I often stare longingly at them wanting to be there. Well I am here now and I still have not found the blue domed churches. My mother and I ventured around the area of our Villa and had snuck down some side streets that looked like we may be rewarded with our sought after view with no luck. Although we were rewarded with some FANTASTIC views……
….we were looking for the iconic blue domed churches of Santorini.
Upon our arrival at Dana Villas the reception handed us a paper with the villas information and some suggested tours. I convinced my mom to take the “Private Photo Tour” — “Tour the island with a professional photographer who is going to take your pictures and visit the most famous and most photographed areas.” PERFECT! Our own tour guide! We toured the entire island in a car, with a local, were given history and local stories, crammed in every hot spot, and we were given over 200 professional photos! This is the best way to tour the island.
This is the view I had been looking for. Amazingly tourists walked right by the stairway that would take them to this spot. So many people were rushing and did not even know the beauty they were missing just down a few flight of stairs. If I was not with our photographer Vicky, I may have missed it too!
Vicky picked us up 10:00 am and promised to have us back by 1:00pm. I wish all tour guides were as awesome as Vicky! She gave us a great history lesson of the island, answered all of our questions and supplied us with baked goods (her other job is bakery owner!), and took us to see all the sights I longed to see around the island. Most I have seen in photos before, some were her secret spots, all were breathtaking! We were so quick with our tour that we were able to indulge in some wine tasting at a local vineyard.
If you are ever in Satorini, Greece and wanting to book a photographer tour, I would recommend Vicky whole heartedly! Also, visit her bakery or place an order…. you won’t be disappointed. Wishing I had brought home more of the bakeries goodies!
PRO TIP: If you are visiting during peek season always make sure your tour guide is a local. They know the secret spots and will give a tour to remember.
