I am writing this post while laying in bed.
Two nights ago, I bent over to pick up a toy and I felt a twinge in my lower back. I fell to my knees and back onto the couch. I thought “This will pass in a few minutes.”. I was home alone and stuck on the couch. I decided to get myself up to my bed. Twenty minutes later, that included crawling up the stairs, I finally made it to my bed. When my hubby got home I recounted my ordeal. We both shrugged it off and went to sleep.
The next morning… I could not move. At all. The pain was so intense I thought I would pass out or throw up. I crawled to the washroom, did my business, and made it to the bottom of our staircase. This humiliating and painful spectacle took close to two hours. Two hours of crying, dragging, sliding and so much pain.
We decided to call an ambulance. Yep, an ambulance to come and pick up my broken self. A quick look over by the ER doctor and I was sent home with a diagnosis of a back sprain and a script for muscle relaxers. Luckily there was a wheelchair we could use to get me back to the van. I was in so much pain but I followed directions and had a sleepless pain filled night.
The next morning was no better. I could not get out of bed. I told my husband that the pain was too much I needed stronger meds. I emailed my family doctor. On her lunch break (she is amazing like that Hi Kath!!!) she emailed me back saying she did not think that ANY pain meds would help me. She did say “Get into your chiro or RMT immediately as you may have locked a facet joint and ART would help.”.
I saw my chiropractor, Noella, two days in a row. I am still very sore, spend most of my day in bed. I am seeing a little bit of improvement. I can get to the washroom on my own, and I can very slowly and cautiously navigate the stairs. I get tired and frustrated very quickly.
This will not happen again. As soon as I am able to I will be seeking the help of a dietician, a workout plan, and weekly swimming. More on that to come.
