At first glance, you may not believe a fully functioning and popular brewery is hiding inside this old barn. Upon entering the vast space, surprises are everywhere. There is small kitchen area with offerings of hand crafted pizzas, hearty sandwich plates, ribs (yum!) and a generous Charcuterie Board (A must try!) once you walk in. Once you are through the doors, the unmistakable scent of a brewery promises a great craft beer is close at hand. Trust me and do not judge this book by its cover.
The Whitewater Brewing Company was a busy spot on the Saturday afternoon we visited. Growlers of craft beer were flying out the door. The brewery was started by friends who shared a passion for rafting and beer. Each beer is hands on brewed, this is not a “push a button and beer is made” type of place. The beer is a pure product with no filter or clarifying agents. Whitewater Brewery beers contain only four ingredients; Barley, hops, yeast, and water. The love of the craft of beer making is evident after your first taste.
Whitewater Brewery beer was served in two off-site locations a year ago and now can be found in over thirty spots around the Ottawa Valley. You can see the locations on the brag wall in the brewery. I recognized a few of my favorite local eateries and was pleased I will be able to enjoy the beer close to home.
Some bloggy friends of mine and I were invited to a release party for Whitewater Brewery newest brew called “Jack Frost’s Demise”. What a great name for this beer. Jack Frost’s Demise is a strong porter flavoured with chocolate and wintergreen. I also swear the aroma of coffee was there. I almost want to say this a beer you can have for dessert. Overall a yummy, strong, warm you up to your toes kind of beer.
Other brews available are:
Farmer’s Daughters Blonde Ale ABV: 5% | IBU: 22
*This was a favourite with our group!
Whistling Paddler English Style Ale ABV: 4.5% | IBU: 36
Class V IPA ABV: 5.5% | IBU: 72
*I have since enjoyed this brew at The Cheshire Cat Pub in Carp
Midnight Stout Oatmeal Stout ABV: 4.5% | IBU: 30
The Whitewater Brewing Company held a release party for their newest seasonal beer called “Jack Frost’s Demise”. The party included live music, burlesque dancers and some donuts from Hot Cream Holes. A night filled with beer, burlesque and donuts? How could we say no!? The Whitewater Brewing Company has a slogan, “Whitewater Beer is brewed by friends, for friends.”. The vibe of the party definitely held true to this. Want to get up and sing? Go ahead. This was actually my first time experiencing Burlesque and I have to tip my hat to the ladies of Ottawa Burlesque. The women exude confidence and were fun to chat with after the show. The ladies from Hot Cream Holes (no really! That is the name of their company!) treated us to a donut filled with ice cream and topped with a sauce made from Jack Frost’s Demise. Delicious.
The Whitewater Brewing Company has a motto they obviously live by. If you are ever in the area, stop by. You will find instant friends and a great beer!
