What Should Parents Look Out For In Guardians of the Galaxy?
Partial Nudity – There are scenes of partial nudity of both male and female characters.
Violence – In the Marvel Universe, plenty of violence is to be expected! There are a lot of fight scenes where, both on-screen and off-screen, people are hit, kicked and stabbed. Some of these actions result in the death of a character.
Gore – There are scenes where people are strangled to death, beings are eaten, and skin is burned off. Again, some of these actions resulted in the death of a character.
Language – “colourful” language are both mouthed and spoken by some of the characters in the film.
Adult Behaviour – There are a few scenes where drinking is involved.
What Did We Think About Guardians of the Galaxy?
This is not a film I that I would bring a younger child to, hence the PG-13 rating. That being said, this is a fantastic late summer film! Movie-goers will be able to view Guardians of the Galaxy in IMAX 3D or RealD 3D.
From beginning to end, Guardians was action-packed, and was extremely funny! The dialogue was sharp and witty. At times, the one-liners were so good that you would still be laughing when the next one was delivered. The story also moves along quickly, so it did not lag in any one part of the movie.
The cast for this film was amazing! There were so many big name actors in Marvel film that I wondered how all of these would blend into the movie. The principle cast (listed above) played so well off of each other especially since two of them were not really present during filming (I hope this did not ruin the movie for any of you). Dave Bautista was a huge surprise for me in this movie. He delivered his lines well, he was really fun to watch on-screen and his character, Drax had a very touching story. I also loved how Glenn Close and John C. Reilly interacted with each other in their roles. Benicio Del Toro also did a fabulously funny job as the Collector. Hopefully, he will reprise this role in another Marvel film!
As I previously stated, the action scenes in Guardians were ever so good. There were some scenes where I was clenching my teeth as I watched some of these scenes! I did not want to close my eyes because I was afraid I would miss something important. I knew it was not real, but my eyes were telling my brain something different.
Another part of Guardians I enjoyed was the music! It was packed with so many of my favourite 70’s hits that my movie buddy and I were singing along to all of them. Luckily for the rest of the theatre that we were sitting up front and the speakers around the theatre were covering up my warbling! MY absolute favourite songs on this film’s soundtrack have to be “Hooked on a Feeling,” “Moonage Daydream,” and “I Want You Back.” There is a reason for all of these 70’s hits to be used, but I do not want to ruin any more of Guardians than I already have.
I rated Guardians of the Galaxy 5 out of 5!
This is a fantastic film to take your older children to, to plan a Ladies/Gents Night around, or to take your other half to for a Date Night! You will laugh, sing along, and be amazed by another aspect of the Marvel Universe.
