|The Cirque Du Soleil Tent Ottawa|
I was lucky enough to be invited to experience Cirque Du Soleil Totem opening night in Ottawa. To say that the show is a feast for the senses is an understatement. From before the show even starts, with characters mingling with the crowd trying to get seated, to the very ending the audience is dazzled. Each act is filled with great costumes, acrobatics that awe the crowd and music that is uniquely Cirque.
About the show from the Totem website:
TOTEM traces the fascinating journey of the human species from its original amphibian state to its ultimate desire to fly. The characters evolve on a stage evoking a giant turtle, the symbol of origin for many ancient civilizations.
Inspired by many founding myths, TOTEM illustrates, through a visual and acrobatic language, the evolutionary progress of species.
Somewhere between science and legend TOTEM explores the ties that bind Man to other species, his dreams and his infinite potential.
Here are some pictures of my most favorite moments.
A cute play on the evolution of man.
By far my favorite act of the night! These girls rode on high unicycles while balancing bowls on their heads. They effortlessly flung these bowls in the air with their feet and caught them on their heads without the use of their hands. Amazing.
The Russian Bars. Strength, balance and acrobatics is the theme of this act and it is simply spectacular to watch. The bars bend with the weight of the acrobat flinging him into the air while two strong men hold an end. Spectacular!
The “Italian Tourist” and the deadpan “Sad Fisherman” were the comic relief of the night. Entertaining and lovable characters that continued entertaining us via twitter after the show was over.
The Hoop Dancers were one of the highlights of the evening for me. The beauty of the storytelling via dancing and creation of shapes and animals was breathtaking.
